She came to The Catholic University of America as a pre-med major, but by her junior year, she knew she wanted to work in children’s healthcare as a nurse. And how she’s been a nurse!
Kari Mastro, B.S.N. 1990, is a leader and innovator in the healthcare industry. By reorienting the missions and goals of hospitals and their nursing staffs, Kari has made trips to the hospital less stressful and more transparent to young patients and their anxious families.
She began her career as a nurse at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Now, as the chief nursing officer for St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa., she leads nurses and defines the values of the hospital’s nursing staff. As a leader, she simplifies processes and removes barriers so that her staff members can perform their best, focusing their attention on giving the finest care to patients and their families.
On Friday, April 12, 2019, we presented Kari with an Alumni Achievement Award. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Mastro for her incredible work as an alumna of The Catholic University of America. Thank you, Dr. Mastro, for making the hospital environment less worrisome for so many people.
The Catholic University of America is only a small piece of Kari's incredible story, but we are proud to be a University that has a tremendous impact through the accomplishments of our alumni. We ask you to consider making a gift today so that we can continue to educate Cardinals who will go on to make a positive impact on our world.
