During August, the 3.5-ton sculpture Angels Unawares is on display in the front plaza of the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis, its eighth and penultimate stop on its national tour before being installed permanently at Catholic University's campus.

On Friday, August 13, we celebrated with members of the CatholicU community in the Minneapolis region. First, we joined His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bernard A. Hebda, University trustee and archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, to see the powerful sculpture in person. Then we moved across the street to Loring Social for a reception.

During the reception, Archbishop Hebda offered an invocation, and then guests heard from Scott Rembold, vice president of University Advancement, and Aaron Dominguez, University provost. Rembold revealed the struggles of keeping the campus community safe during a pandemic and how the University responded to challenges to find success. Provost Dominguez shared his personal connection to the University's mission and explained how he manifests the University's dedication to the dialogue between faith and reason.

“Recent graduates have commented that the education they have received here has not only prepared them for the technical challenges of their fields, but also the ethical challenges that come with technology and scientific advancement. They have learned both the ‘how’ and the ‘why,’ and they are more prepared to question both the ‘why’ and the ‘why not,’ as well as the ‘should’ or ‘should not’ that will come up in their careers.”

— Aaron Dominguez, University provost

We thank everyone who joined us for this event in Minneapolis. Angels Unawares will remain on display through August 30. Then, it will be transported to Loyola University Chicago's Lake Shore Campus. We encourage our community members in the Chicago region to join us for a Mass and leadership lunch on September 11 and 12.
