"Whether you're conscious of it or not, your body is taking in sensory stimulation from every space that you're in and responding to it. It plays a role in how happy, productive, or healthy you are."
Carolyn Rickard-Brideau, B.S.Arch. 1983, understands how spaces affect people mentally and physically. As the corporate president of Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, she is at the forefront of salutogenic design, which focuses on creating spaces that improve human well being.
Recently, Rickard-Brideau was named to the advisory board of the International WELL Building Institute, where she explores and quantifies the impact of the built environment on mental health. She also completed the first published WELL-certified building in Silicon Valley.
For her, a building is more than a building, and creating a beautiful space is only half the challenge. Her designs help people feel and perform their best.
On Friday, April 12, 2019, we presented Ms. Rickard-Brideau with an Alumni Achievement Award. Please join us in congratulating her for her incredible work as an alumna of The Catholic University of America School of Architecture and Planning. Thank you, Ms. Rickard-Brideau, for promoting a new set of values for the design of built spaces and for putting those designs into practice.
The Catholic University of America is only a small piece of Carolyn's incredible story, but we are proud to be a University that has a tremendous impact through the accomplishments of our alumni. We ask you to consider making a gift today so that we can continue to educate Cardinals who will go on to make a positive impact on our world.
