Thomas Smith, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, moderated a discussion among three expert faculty members on the role of the electoral college in this year's election and the strategies the Democrats and Republicans will use to influence voters.

About the panelists and moderator

• John Kenneth White is a professor of politics who researches — and teaches courses on — the U.S. presidency and American political parties.
• Stephen West is an associate professor of history who teaches a course entitled "Electing the President."
• Prasad Senesi is an associate professor of mathematics who will mathematically describe the distribution of power provided to states via the apportionments of the electoral college.
• Thomas Smith is the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and served as the moderator of the discussion. An alumnus of Catholic University, he most recently served as the director of the university honors program at Villanova University. His background is in politics and international affairs.
