On Saturday night of Family Weekend, Catholic and Loyola squared off for first place in the Mid-Atlantic conference, with the top spot on the line in a clash of unbeaten, nationally ranked teams. Catholic jumped out to an early lead when wing CJ Edozie went around the corner at mid-field for a long-range try. Loyola battled back and closed the score with a try, then took the lead with a second score just minutes later (Catholic 7-10 Loyola). Catholic responded before the half with a second try from prop Jordan Taylor (Catholic 12-10 Loyola). Catholic started the second half with a surge and netted their third try in the hands of flanker Zack Longfellow (Catholic 19-10 Loyola). Rain swept in during the second frame and attacking opportunities became harder to create. However, Loyola executed a very nice kick and chase into the try zone to narrow the gap to 19-15.
The game remained scoreless for the final 30 minutes as the teams battered away with neither able to find the try zone. Catholic locked down the game in the final 10 minutes, controlling possession and running out the clock on the Greyhounds. Final score: 19-15.
