Give Blessed Fulton J. Sheen’s Legacy A Voice Through Future Generations

The Catholic University of America seeks to raise $10 million for scholarships for students with a commitment to evangelization in the manner of Venerable Fulton J. Sheen in honor of his beatification (September 24, 2026). An endowment of this size will provide 90 students each year with an Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Scholarship of $5,000 each, funding the preeminent scholarship program at the University. These scholars will carry forward Sheen’s faithful service by preparing the next generation of leaders for the Church and the Nation, ready to bring the Light of Faith into every corner of society.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR SHEEN SCHOLARSHIPS AT CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY?

Graduate and undergraduate students; priests, seminarians, consecrated women and men, and the laity
Students from every discipline with a commitment to evangelization.
Students from all 12 colleges and schools, with priority to the three ecclesial schools:
- School of Canon Law
- School of Philosophy
- School of Theology & Religious Studies

WHAT DIFFERENCE CAN A SHEEN SCHOLAR MAKE TODAY?

Sheen Scholars will be prepared to evangelize through a wide array of workplaces. They will serve in Catholic institutions, such as apostolates, schools, health care organizations, dioceses, and parishes. They also will make significant contributions in secular organizations, such as in the fields of law, business, bioethics, science, and public policy, where a Catholic voice can shape the common good.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT ARCHBISHOP FULTON J. SHEEN’S LIFE?

At Catholic University

Blessed Fulton J. Sheen spent 24 years at Catholic University, studying, teaching, prayer, and preaching – honing his skills as a scholar, orator, educator, and evangelist.
He authored 34 books in his 24 years at the University, and 32 more after leaving.
He drew students to packed classrooms, perched on radiators and in hallways to listen to his lectures.

Across the nation

Blessed Fulton J. Sheen produced the TV seriesm Life is Worth Living, reaching millions each week for 16 years, earning an Emmy Award.
He produced weekly talks on The Catholic Hour national radio program for 20 years, while teaching at Catholic University.
He presided at the world’s first broadcast of a Catholic religious service (Easter Mass on national TV in 1940).
He was called by the Jesuit magazine America "the greatest evangelizer in the history of the Catholic Church of the United States."

Blessed Fulton J. Sheen served 16 years as national director for the Society of the Propagation of the Faith, raising millions of dollars for global missions of the Church.
Fulton Sheen attended all sessions of the Second Vatican Council, with active participation.
