As the United States of America commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, The Catholic University of America marks this national milestone by highlighting the enduring contributions of Catholics and the profound influence of the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition on the life of the nation.
Located in the nation’s capital and founded in 1887 by the bishops of the United States with the approval of the Holy See, Catholic University occupies a unique place in the life of the Church and the nation. At the University’s founding, Pope Leo XIII expressed the hope that it would “give to the Republic her best citizens.” For more than a century, the University has formed clergy and lay leaders who have helped shape the intellectual, spiritual, and civic life of both the Church and American society.
This year, as the University also celebrates the beatification of alumnus and former professor Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, we are reminded of the enduring influence of Catholic thought and witness in American public life.
Join us for a two-day conference exploring American Catholicism and its impact on American society and culture, hosted in the heart of our nation’s capital. The conference will offer opportunities for prayer, fellowship, and reflection, featuring academic conversations and remarks from distinguished speakers, with additional speakers to be announced:
