Templeton Religion Trust

Julia Bermudez

Professor Julio Bermudez, director of the Cultural Studies and Sacred Space graduate program in the School of Architecture and Planning, won a $234,000 grant from the Templeton Religion Trust.

Bermudez and a team of interdisciplinary scholars are using a combination of measures to study how two buildings — the sacred Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the secular Union Station in Washington, D.C. — affect Catholic believers. With this study, Bermudez expects to show how the brain operates as subjects undergo an experience in real time.
